The Geren Island Water Treatment Plant (GIWTP) is a critical infrastructure that serves 175,000people in Salem, Oregon. This fast-tracked $49-million Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) project addressed the presence of algal toxins in the drinking water supply and replaced aging infrastructures to keep the plant operating as intended.

The project’s main driver was the schedule, which demanded the implementation of near-term solutions in 2018 and a fully operational ozone system by the spring of 2021, before the start of the algal toxin season. NOTE: Based on the success of this project, the Slayden/Carollo team was recently awarded the $21M Filter No. 2 Project. Combined, these improvements will ensure a resilient supply for the City for generations.

“Their open and transparent approach throughout preconstruction facilitated an easy and expedited GMP negotiation process. This was critical given the fast-track nature of the project. They provided a detailed and comprehensive GMP proposal, and they demonstrated a cooperative approach in working with the City’s independent estimator.”
